ARMM execs meet IOM delegation
COTABATO CITY (Jan. 24, 2014)—Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim in Mindanao (ARMM) met to update here today foreign-based officials of the International Organization on Migration (IOM) for a continuing endeavor at development partnership.
Executive Secretary Laisa Alamia warmly welcomed the IOM representatives, who are based in Geneva, The Netherlands, Brussels and Bangkok, including the Philippines-based IOM Family in a Donors’ Meeting at the Astana Hall, ARMM Compound, Cotabato City.
ES Alamia spoke to the IOM representatives on various efforts of the ARMM government on displacement, conflict prevention and rehabilitation efforts. She also discussed with the IOM Team the strategic initiatives of the ARMM under the five Cabinet Clusters, namely: a) Good Governance and Anti-Corruption, b) Security, Justice Peace and Transition to Bangsamoro, c) Economic Growth and Linkages, d) Human Development and Poverty Reduction and e) ARMM HEART.
These efforts, she said, are geared towards readying the ARMM for transition with its foresighted evolution to a Bangsamoro government, through democratic process, under a sealed peace deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
Mr. Marco Boasso, Director, Global Administrative Center and Chief of Mission, IOM-Philippines told ARMM officials that the purpose of the visit is to know and understand more of the ARMM’s updated situation, because they believe that they can better assist ARMM with better understanding of its situation.
Mr. Boasso added that the meeting is a welcome opportunity for the delegation to be having a dialogue with the ARMM officials on how best to engage them and in the most productive way possible.
Various questions from the IOM donors were clarified on the current situation of the ARMM, especially on how best ARMM can achieve results under the five cabinet clusters in the light of the recent development in the peace process.
ES Alamia together with Labor and Employment Regional Secretary Muslimin Jakilan, Dir. Lindy Lao of the Department of the Interior and Local Governments, Asec. Pombaen Karon Kader of Department of Social Welfare and Development-ARMM, Deputy Executive Secretary Rasol Mitmug, Jr., Col. Garbino of OCD and RPDO Executive Director Baintan Adil-Ampatuan also shared their inputs on some of the important points raised from the IOM delegation, particularly those concerning the peace process, ARMM sources of income, and the region’s relationship with the BDA and the ARMM LGUs.
ED Adil-Ampatuan spoke to the IOM delegation on the ARMM officials’ coordination meeting with the BDA, the prior morning, to discuss on the formulation of a Bangsamoro Development Plan (BDP).
Dr. Arvin Chua, Director IV of the OPAPP also informed the IOM delegation on the status of the implementation of the Sajahatra program in the MILF areas.
The meeting has provided a fruitful venue for an interface between ARMM officials and representatives of foreign development partners on current reforms in the ARMM, being consistent with the policy thrust and development direction of the national leadership. . (MMI of RPDO-ARMM)
