BUTUAN CITY – The draft Mindanao Spatial Strategy Development Framework (MSS/DF) currently being prepared by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Offices and Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO)-ARMM. The Draft MSS/DF is an updated version of the Mindanao Strategy Development Framework that highlights the physical spatial strategy which includes various maps to capture a vividly picture of the framework of the entire Mindanao.
In order to facilitate the completion of the required maps for the Draft MSS/DF, a Core Team was created headed by Ms. Grace C. Harting, Supervising Economic Development Committee (EDC) of the NEDA CARAGA. Members include Geographic Information System (GIS) staff from the different NEDA Regional Offices in Mindanao including the RPDO for ARMM.
The Team’s objective is to generate maps such as: 1) Location Map; 2) Land Classification Map; 3) Soil Type Map; 4) Land Use Map; 5) Forest Cover Map; 6) Transport System Map; 7) Basic Facilities and Utilities Maps; 8) Poverty Map; 9) Network of Growth Centers Map; 10) Population Map by Municipality; 11) Population Density Map by Municipality ;12) Population Growth Rates Map; 13) Projected Population Map; and 14) Hazard Maps.
During the Mapshop, Mr. Emmanuel Z. Gidacan, Acting Assistant Regional Director of NEDA CARAGA, gave a short introduction about MSS/DF and the importance of generating various maps. Ms. Harting also conducted a leveling off regarding the available data of each of the participants for equal distribution of tasks to hasten the maps generation.
Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Carino, Regional Director of NEDA CARAGA, acknowledged and thanked the RPDO GIS staff for sharing comprehensive files with the Team which resulted to the immediate generation of outputs during the Mapshop.
The activity was a success as the participants were able to generate initial maps to be consolidated and finalized by NEDA XI. --Pice and Kara J
