During the orientation, some of the ARMM officials had shared their insights, reaction, and appreciations about the activity.
Ms. Norkhalila Mae Mambuay Campong, Cabinet Secretary has emphasized that the activity is aimed at informing the young leaders of the governance program and reform initiatives of ARMM under the leadership of Governor Mujiv S. Hataman.
Cabinet Secretary Campong added that the activity will be of great help in enhancing the leadership skills of our young leaders.
Mr. Anwar Upahm, Manager of the ARMM-HELPS (Health, Education, Livelihood, Peace and Governance, and Synergy), shared updates on ARMM-HELPS including the Priority Areas for 2015. ARMM-HELPS is the banner project of the ARMM Regional Government which focuses on improving the lives of the people in poor and conflict-affected communities of the region.
Jessa Lasay, one of the youth members said: “Marami po talaga akong natutunan at isa na doon ang ARMM-HELPS. Marami pong dapat ayusin sa aming barangay tulad ng kalsada (road). Marami kaming nakuha na ideas tulad ng kung ano ang dapat gawin and paano namin kausapin ang aming mga district engineers tungkol sa concern namin.”
Engr. Mlang U. Madal, RPDO Assistant Executive Director said that the program is a good training ground for the young leaders because they will be exposed to government development work. Also, with the BYLP, they will be developed as the future young leaders of the region.
Furthermore, Engr. Baintan A. Ampatuan, RPDO Executive Director, emphasized that the exposure of Basilan young leaders on ARMM governance would widen their knowledge on the reform initiatives of the ARG. This would also open them on the realities or situations of the people in the region and how does the ARG respond to their needs.
After the orientation, Basilan youth leaders were tasked to do barangay profiling, geotagging and mapping of the ARMM HELPS’ projects and existing facilities in the target barangays.
