The Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO-ARMM) joined the UNICEF in the conduct of its Two-day Coordination and Planning Workshop on the Capacity Assessment on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on April 22-23, 2015 at the RPDO Conference Hall, ARMM Compound, Cotabato City.
The workshop was aimed at laying-out plans for a research project that UNICEF will undertake in partnership with various institutions to assess the DRR Capacities of ARMM Regional line agencies and selected local government units, said Mr. Nonoy Fajardo, UNICEF Program Specialist.
During the workshop, institutions such as the Bicol University, Notre Dame University, Center for Initiative and Research on Climate Adaptation (CIRCA), Climate Change Academy (CCA) of Albay Province, and the RPDO-ARMM were identified and organized to compose the Management Committee (MANCOM) that will provide guidance in the conduct of the research project to be undertaken.
The said institutions underwent workshop activities which included discussions on the terms of reference; drafting of the project work plan; coordination and conduct of the assessment; review and approval of all outputs of the research including design, protocols, tools, and narratives of cases studies; and agreement on the next steps to expedite the research.
Mr. Fajardo also said that the RPDO being the planning office of the ARMM will serve as a member of the MANCOM and technical secretariat in the conduct of the research.
At least seven (7) municipalities in ARMM will be covered by the research project, four (4) in Maguindanao, two (2) in Sulu and one (1) in Tawi-Tawi.
