Over 400 bamboo seedlings were planted along the riverbank of the Tukanalipao , Mamasapano, Maguindanao during the kick off of the Bamboo Planting Activity spearheaded by the Autonomous Regional Government (ARG) through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-ARMM) in partnership with the Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO-ARMM) held this morning, September 3, 2015.
"This is part of the initiatives of the ARG in line with the implementation of ARMM- Humanitarian Development and Action Plan (ARMM-HDAP) priority programs/projects under the DENR project component. It aims to help protect the area from frequent occurrence of natural calamities such as soil erosion and flood," Engr. Baintan Adil-Ampatuan, RPDO Executive Director, emphasized in her opening statement.
She added that the activity also promotes the spirit of volunteerism on environmental protection in the region. She said that the RPDO chairs the Regional Search Committee-Search for Outstanding Volunteers (RSC-SOV) and the National Volunteer Month-Regional Steering Committee.
Hon. Benzar Ampatuan, Municipal Mayor of Mamasapano, expressed his gratitude to Regional Governor Mujiv S. Hataman, RPDO Executive Director Baintan A. Ampatuan, DENR Regional Secretary Kahal Q. Kedtag, and other ARMM officials and employees who supported and participated in the activity.
The bamboo planting activity is an initial intervention to Mamasapano and follow-through environmental advocacies of the regional government in response to the climate change will be conducted in the area and its adjoining municipalities especially the 15 municipalities affected by the Law Enforcement Operation (LEO).
The activity was participated in by various regional line agencies, media partners, academe, volunteers, and police and military personnel.
