The Autonomous Regional Government (ARG) through the Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO) with the technical assistance of World Bank held an ARMM Open Data Workshop on January 21, 2016 at RPDO Conference Hall, ARMM Compound, Cotabato City. It aimed to operationalize the ARMM Open Data and facilitate data-sharing among agencies involved in basic education investments in the region.
The workshop was participated in by representatives from regional line agencies such as RPDO, Office of the Regional Governor (ORG), Information Communication and Technology Office (ICTO), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Health (DOH) as well as non-government partners such as Basic Education Assistance for Muslim Mindanao (BEAM), and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
"We need to fully maximize the data sharing among agencies especially on the implemented infrastructure projects. It will improve our data management through ARMM Open Data system as basis for providing better policy and programming," RPDO Executive Director Baintan A. Ampatuan emphasized in her opening statement.
Executive Director Ampatuan added that after the workshop, agencies will integrate all the initiatives in the data system which will be lodged to the Regional Statistical Committee (RSC), a committee chaired by the RPDO and co-chaired by PSA-ARMM which aims to institute measures to strengthen the statistical capability of the local statistical system of the region.
World Bank consultant Assad Baunto said that the ARMM Open Data covers the basic education aspect as pilot program and it will be expanded to other sectors in the regional government.
"The Regional Governor and I believe that the ARMM Open Data will intensify the collection and validation of data on education infrastructure," Mr. Baunto added.
The workshop included activities such as identification of the most pressing problems and challenges in basic education in ARMM, presentation of existing education-related data, introduction of data capture and mobile survey questionnaire, and operationalization of the ARMM Open Data.
Series of follow-through meetings will be conducted with RPDO in close coordination with the DepEd, WB and other involved line agencies.
