Officials and employees of the region gathered for the flag ceremony and short program to commemorate the Mamasapano incident held earlier this morning, January 25 at the region's seat, Cotabato City.
Engr. Baintan A. Ampatuan, Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO) Executive Director and ARMM-Humanitarian and Development Action Plan (HDAP) Project Manager, stressed in her message that this day is an opportune time to reminisce what happened during the Mamasapano incident where more than 125,000 individuals were internally displaced from their homes.
"Due to the incident, the Regional Governor together with the concerned line agencies formulated a comprehensive plan that will immediately aid the needs of the people in the area. It encompasses not just the Mamasapano but also its neighboring areas. The Plan is dubbed as ARMM-Humanitarian and Development Action Plan covering the period 2015-2016," Engr. Ampatuan added.
The ARMM-HDAP primarily focuses on providing humanitarian assistance and various government initiatives relative to development such as livelihood, infrastructure, health facilities, education, and others.
Mr. John Louie Balagot, Assistant Executive Secretary read the ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman's message. He said that the national government has constantly reached out to Mamasapano to help uplift the people's lives by providing better infrastructures and services that can improve their standard of living and most importantly, it has reaffirmed its commitment not only to the Mamasapano but to the entire region as it continues to push for peace and development.
"We continue to choose what is best for our people. We continue to act in accordance with our commitment to peace and reconciliation guided by kindness and compassion. There is still much to be done and healing cannot be fully realized without justice. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but it is also, above all else, the assurance of justice will prevail," he added.
Ms. Norombai Utto, former valedictorian of Hadji Salik Kalaing National Highschool and one of the top 10 graduating class last year who was granted a scholarship through Governor Hataman, expressed her warmest gratitude to the ARMM Government for continuously providing assistance to the Bangsamoro people.
